Celebrating Banh Minh in Ho Chi Minh

In a nod to the unique culinary culture of Vietnam, the word bánh mì was added to the Oxford English Dictionary nine years ago in March 2011. The recognition for this baguette, usually packed with meats and pickled vegetables for a distinct Vietnamese twist, was celebrated by a week-long series of activities named “I love Banh mi Saigon” in March supported by tour companies, bread brands and other businesses. The musician Nguyen Hai Phong also played the song I love Banh mi Saigon in celebration of this iconic street food snack, while locals were encouraged to stay safe and order take outs of this street food classic and enjoy it at home.
