Hit the slopes in Azerbaijan

Looking for somewhere new to take your skis or snowboard, then why not head to the Caucasian Mountains of Azerbaijan? Nestled on the crossroads of Europe and Asia there are daily direct flights on Azerbaijan Airlines and Fly Dubai from Dubai, you can reach the capital, Baku, in under three hours to enjoy the crisp mountain air and snowy landscape.

Perched atop the pristine mountains of the Gusar region sits the Shahdag Mountain Resort, which has runs for everyone from complete beginners to those looking for challenging slopes, with more than 17km of piste. Non-skiers will also find a variety of activities including off-road tours, paragliding, cycling and cable car rides. Once you have had your fill of the resort, venture into nearby village of Laza, where frozen waterfalls are among the attractions. There’s plenty of stellar accommodation to check into, including the Park Chalet, where facilities include a 20-metre indoor pool, gym, whirlpool and sauna. Over at the Pik Palace hotel, meanwhile, there’s restorative spa treatments, and a poolside bar to help you unwind.
