Sukhothai Hotel Group Makes China Debut in Shanghai

Thailand’s Sukhothai Hotel Group has opened its first property in Mainland China in Shanghai. Designed by Chinese studio Neri & Hu, the hotel boasts a curated selection of more than 30 artworks, including two large-scale interactive installations by Japanese digital art collective teamLab. There are 170 guest rooms and 31 residence-style suites decked out in muted tones, each of which has diatom-silica clay walls, an environmentally-friendly material that helps air purification, humidity regulation and sound absorption.

The hotel features five dining venues, including urban Italian restaurant La Scala and hip bar Urban Lounge, which has more than 100 premium gins and tonics on the menu. The Spa Retreat provides Southeast Asian healing therapies and signature wellness programmes and there’s also a fitness studio, 25-metre heated indoor pool, sauna and steam room.
