Major Openings for Capella

At this year’s ILTM Asia in Shanghai, Capella Hotels & Resorts announced several key stone openings planned for 2017 and 2018, while also giving a lucky few a sneak peak of the new Capella Shanghai, set to open next month.

The new property, Capella Shanghai, Jian Ye Li, is the only all-villa urban resort in the city. A rare architectural heritage, the hotel offers discerning guests the authentic experience of Shanghai’s romantic past, with 55 villas, 40 residential apartments, and The Gallery, a collection of restaurants and lifestyle brands, including Le Comptoir de Pierre Gagnaire, a new concept by culinary icon Pierre Gagnaire. The French restaurant and all-villa urban resort are part of the Jian Ye Li estate, which is the last remaining cluster of “shikumen” architecture with history dating back to the 1930s.

Lauded as the “Best Chef in the World 2015” by his industry peers according to French magazine Le Chef, Gagnaire celebrated 50 years of creativity and success in the kitchen this year. The atlas of Pierre Gagnaire spans 12 restaurants globally with a total of 13 Michelin stars among them. Driven by his mission statement “facing tomorrow but respectful of yesterday”, the cuisine of chef Gagnaire is his means of expression, replacing words with culinary works of art. In the kitchen, he transforms raw ingredients into a symphony of flavors, textures and temperatures delivered with emotion.

Helmed by Mr. Gagnaire’s prodigy Romain Chapel, Le Comptoir de Pierre Gagnaire will open in July 2017. It comprises a 70-seat restaurant, 50-seat bar as well as a retail bakery at The Gallery. To complement the residential lifestyle of this charming neighborhood, Le Comptoir de Pierre Gagnaire will cater for breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner.

In addition to the Shanghai property, Capella will open an ultra-luxury tented camp concept in Bali this year. A hidden sanctuary within densely forested terrain, Capella Ubud will redefine the hospitality landscape with luxurious tents designed by celebrated architect Bill Bensley. Located along the sacred Wos River, where the Balinese regularly gather for festive processions, the resort offers a charming insight into their traditional way of life.

Edged by rice paddy fields, Capella Ubud comprises 22 ultra-luxury tents featuring an individual plunge pool set against the backdrop of a densely forested terrain. Other amenities include the signature Capella Library, a canopied cistern pool, tented gymnasium, Robatayaki grill, garden specialty dining, and the award-winning Auriga Spa and wellness retreat.
