Six Senses Laamu Receives BlueGreen 360 Resort of the Year Award

Committed to being the first plastic-free atoll in the Maldives by 2020, the BlueGreen 360 awards nominated Six Senses Laamu as its Resort of the Year.

The award programme celebrates businesses and individuals in the ocean tourism industry which have proven their dedication to sustainable tourism within the communities they operate and focuses on resorts, dive operations and cruises in the Asia Pacific region.

Other eco-friendly initiatives at the resort include the creation of an Earth Lab, a centralised hub of recycling and innovative ideas where glass is recycled into pots, vegetable waste becomes compost, and wood charcoal. The resort also funded and created the first Turtle Festival in Laamu, provides marine education to students in all 13 schools in Laamu and conducts beach and reef clean-ups, tree-planting sessions, local community visits, as well as turtle and manta naming.
