Baltimore to Launch Light City: Nation's First Large-scale Light, Music and Innovation Festival

Light City, a new immersive international festival of bright lights and big ideas, will launch in Baltimore, March 28, 2016. The free seven-day event will feature light as a backdrop for the celebration of ideas, ingenuity and creativity.

This family-friendly festival includes seven nights of free entertainment including 29 large-scale original works of light art, plus more than 50 concerts, 100 performances and a day-time, ticketed innovation conference called Light City U. The featured artists were selected by a panel of jurors from more than 200 entries with artists chosen from across the globe including artists from Canada, Spain, Australia and the United Kingdom.

Light City will feature something for everyone as the city becomes a beacon of light. Attendees can interact with unique lighted art along a 1.2-mile waterfront art walk showcasing light displays and structures, video projections, interactive light installations and strolling performances. Uniquely curated musical performances from classical to alternative will entertain festival attendees on two stages.

Baltimore is a city of firsts and Light City is a powerful tie to the city's history and the future. It was 200 years ago in 1816 when Baltimore was the first city in the United States to suggest illuminating its streets with hydrogen gas lanterns.
