Mekong Meditation

The luxurious Belmond La Residence PhouVao in LuangPrabang, Laos, has launched a new spiritual experience that takes guests on an intimate tour of the country’s spiritual capital.

In partnership with local meditation company Your Mind Retreat, Meditation on the Mekong takes guests on a cruise aboard the hotel’s private teak boat, which stops at small local temples along the way to allow guests to meditate, giving a new perspective on Buddhism and temple sightseeing. Guests are accompanied by former Buddhist monk Ajanh Souk, who tells guests about the history of Buddhism in Laos, and describes a monk’s life and practice. A certified in instructor, also onboard, will lead one 45-minute and one 75-minute meditation session.

The cruise will also take guests to the Pak Ou Caves, a holy site filled with thousands of Buddha statues, the Muang Kham Monastery, and the temples of KokPha and Hatshiew. Along the way, guests will enjoy a delicious picnic lunch aboard their boat.

Meditation on the Mekong is priced from GBP306 for two people (US$478), and GBP60 (US$94) for each additional guest.
