Honouring the Grande Dame of Crime

Belmond is celebrating the 125th birthday of famed mystery writer Agatha Christie, the renowned author of Murder on the Orient-Express, at three of the brand’s most exclusive properties. The Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, the Pera Palace Hotel Jumeriah, Istanbul and Belmond Hotel Cipriani, Venice, will come together to honour the best-selling novelist of all time.

The Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, once just the Orient-Express, inspired the characters and story behind Christie’s most acclaimed novel. Christie travelled on the train, which links the legendary cities of Venice and Istanbul, and inspired by her experiences, penned Murder on the Orient-Express in 1934, at the Pera Palace Hotel Jumeirah, Istanbul.

To mark the occasion, the three head chefs of the three Belmond properties have collaborated on a celebratory menu inspired by their national cuisines, and will host a gala dinner at the Belmond Hotel Cipriani’s swimming pool, which overlooks the grand Venice lagoon. Guests will be transported back to the heyday of Agatha Christie, with 1930s-style decorations, champagne cocktails and entertainment that evokes that golden age of travel.

The celebratory gala event will be held on July 1 at 730pm. The dinner is priced at €130 (US$150) per person, and includes food, beverages and entertainment.
