Underwater in the Maldives

Visitors to the Maldives can now enjoy a new experience in the waters of the Indian Ocean with the launch of the archipelago’s first internationally approved free-diving centre at the Dusit Thani Maldives.

A collaboration between the resort’s own free-drive centre and Apnea Total, the renowned free-diving organisation, the centre follows the Apnea Total Free-diving Education System and offers globally recognised Apnea Total certifications.

Says Thanos Lionsatos, director of sales and marketing, “Free-diving is a phenomenal water sport to offer guests at the resort, especially when we are blessed with such stunning marine biodiversity due to being located within the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.”

Resort guests will train under highly experienced  free-dive instructors and use world-class CRESSI equipment as they follow the Apnea Total courses. The courses on offer include the Free-Driver Basic (2 days), the Advanced Free-Driver (3 days), and the Free-Diving Master (up to five weeks). The first course will equip guests to dive safely to 20 metres on a single breath, while the Advanced course will allow them to reach 40 metres below sea level.
