London’s Earnestly Wilde Experience

In tribute to its famed patron, and to celebrate the return of his most famous play – The Importance of Being Earnest – to London’s West End, Hotel Café Royal has launched an exclusive new package that’s sure to thrill Oscar Wilde fans and theatre devotees.

The Oscar Wilde Experience includes a two-night stay at the luxurious hotel with daily English Breakfast, along with the indulgent The Importance of Being Earnest Champagne Afternoon Tea in the hotel’s historic Oscar Wilde Bar, and two tickets to The Importance of Being Earnest at the Harold Pinter theatre, just steps from the hotel. Guests will also receive a special edition Smythson diary in soft leather featuring one of Wilde’s exclusive quotes emblazoned on its cover.

The Importance of Being Earnest Champagne Afternoon Tea will be served at Hotel Café Royal’s spectacular Oscar Wilde Bar. Originally established in 1865, the bar, boasting authentic Louis XVI detailing, is where its Oscar Wilde had lunch every day at 1pm. For the play-inspired tea, Hotel Café Royal’s executive chef, Andrew Turner, has created a unique experience drawing inspiration from the play’s characters and history. The playful tea features a selection of tea sandwiches – think smoked wild boar, crackling, pickled apple, and English mustard bun; and cured venison and pear chutney with red onion marriage and golf puff goat’s cheese and wine jelly engagement – and tongue-in-cheek sweets like the ‘chocolate box’n’ring’; the Lady Bracknell lollipop; and the Dandy raspberry regent.

The Oscar Wilde Experience starts from GBP1,250 (US$2,074) and is valid until September 20. The Importance of Being Earnest Champagne Afternoon Tea will be served every day from 2pm. For reservations, call +44 (0)20 7406 322 or email
