The Spiritual Meets the Physical

The luxurious Belmond La Residence d’Angkor has launched a new wellness initiative that will allow guests to enjoy the city’s cultural highlights while focusing on their health. From November 30 to December 7, the property will run luxury fitness retreat where guests will train among ancient temples, feast on healthy gourmet cuisine, and practice yoga poses.

Guests will begin the experience with a blessing from a local monk to prepare them for the adventure ahead. Each day will begin with a warm up and boot camp session at the temples, kicking off the carefully-planned exercise program which includes isolation training, aerobic activities like mountain biking and jogging, and one-on-one private training. To soothe aching muscles, daily treatments at the Kong Kea Spa are included, as are four yoga sessions. To sate appetites, healthy, delicious cuisine is on offer, which includes protein-rich breakfasts, grilled and steamed seafood, and quinoa salads.

Away from the resort, guests will also enjoy cultural experiences such as a cookery class in the countryside, a sunset cruise on Tonle Sap Lake, and a zipline or canopy tour through the rain forest, while a week-long pass to the Angkor temple complex allows guests to explore the ruins at their own pace. A highlight of the package is the ‘Mystery Dine Around’ experience, where guests will be whisked around Siem Reap by private tuk tuk as they sample authentic Khmer cuisine in four surprise locations. The week-long retreat culminates in guests participating in the 18th Angkor Wat International Half Marathon, where they can choose the full 21km or a 10km run through the ruins.

The seven-night fitness retreat is priced at US$2,895 per person and includes all meals, training, and activities. Only 16 places are available, and bookings must be made by November 1.
