Arty Ship Begins Cruises Through France

River Cruise specialists Uniworld has launched its brand new super ship, the S.S. Catherine, in Lyon, France. Named for the ship’s ‘godmother’, legendary French actress Catherine Deneuve, the latest addition to the fleet was feted with a traditional christening ceremony. The S.S. Catherine will ply the Rhone and Saone rivers through France’s Burgundy and Provence regions.

The new ship offers luxurious, well-appointed accommodation at sea in the form of 80 state rooms, five suites, and one Royal Presidential Suite, each of which includes balconies, Savoir of England beds, flat-screen TVs with an infotainment centre and satellite, and marble bathrooms with l’Occitane amenities, waffle bathrobes, and towel warmers. Exquisite details and decorations adorn the ship, including original and antique artwork, and a magnificent Murano chandelier suspended alongside a glass elevator and waterfall.

The art theme extends to the ship’s public areas, which include a signature Bar du Leopold – complete with cinema – the spacious Van Gogh Lounge, and the elegant Cézanne restaurant. Guests will also enjoy the cozy bistro, the full-service Serenity River Spa and fitness centre, and high-quality meals made with the finest ingredients procured through daily visits to local farmers’ markets.
