Anantara Hotels Opens Its First African Resort

Anantara Hotels, Resorts and Spas have announced the opening of its first resort in Africa. The Anantara Bazaruto Island Resort & Spa is located in the Bazaruto Archipelago, just 30kms off Mozambique. To reach the resort, guests take a two-hour direct flight from Johannesburg to Mozambique’s Vilankulos airport, from where they’ll take a fifteen-minute flight to the resort.

The resort boasts 44 spacious villas ranging in size from 90sqm to 330sqm, each of which have been designed in harmony with the natural surroundings of lush vegetation and azure ocean, and offer garden and shoreline panoramas. Villas feature four poster beds with gauzy white mosquito drapes, luxurious bathrooms with sunken tubs and outdoor showers, and comfortable, elegant living spaces. Some of the villas offer expansive outdoor areas with hammocks, plunge pools, and verandas. Book ahead for the Anantara Pool Villa, which affords total seclusion and unrivalled ocean views along with two generously-sized en-suite bedrooms, a spacious lounge and dining area, and a pool and Jacuzzi.

On site, an array of dining options ensures guests are spoilt for choice when it comes time to sate their appetites. Golfinho serves breakfast and dinner on the outdoor terrace, or in the dining room showcasing original walls which date back to the early Portuguese traders, while Clube Naval is the perfect spot to enjoy light lunches and sundowner cocktails. For succulent grilled meats and fresh seafood served by the beach, Beach Deck is the place to be. The resort also features Anantara’s signature Dining by Design program, which offers truly bespoke dining experiences with your choice of dream settings, fine-dining menus, and private chefs and butlers.

Also available are a fitness centre, tennis and volleyball courts, a golf course, an Anantara Spa, 4x4s to go exploring in, and opportunities to snorkel, dive, windsurf, water-ski, or wake-board.
