Jetwing Vil Uyana Sigiriya Resort Named One of the World’s Best Ecolodges

The Jetwing Vil Uyana resort in Sigiriya has soared to new heights, thanks to its being named one of the world’s best ecolodges in the June issue of National Geographic Traveler. The inclusion of the resort on the list is momentous, as it is the only Sri Lankan resort to have made the cut.

Launched in 2006, Jetwing Vil Uyana was considered a ‘fool’s dream’ by many, because of its remote location away from traditional tourist destinations. The property required massive investment and the thorough reimagining of the abandoned, dry land which had once been used for slash-and-burn agriculture.
Now the property, a member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World group, is often referred to as ‘Sri Lanka’s best eco resort’. The resort features 25 dwellings over four distinct habitats –water, forest, marsh and garden. Situated close to the famous Rock Fortress of Sigiriya, Jetwing Vil Uyana has become a nature haven, with a number of flora and fauna adopting the property’s surrounds as their habitat.
