Queenstown, New Zealand, Kicks off Winter Season in Style

From June 21 - 30, thrill-seekers will converge on Queenstown, New Zealand’s adventure capital, to celebrate the kick-off of the winter season with the 2013 American Express Queenstown Winter Festival.

Now in its 39th year, the annual event is an adrenaline-pumping lineup of mountain sports, downtown street parties, fireworks, concerts, comedy, family fun and live entertainment. The festival consists of more than 75 events across its 10 days, most of which are free.

The festival kicks off in style on June 21, with an extravagant opening party at Earnslaw Park on Queenstown’s waterfront. Local comedians Urzila Carlson and Paul Ego will MC the event, which will see performances from local acts, a spectacular fireworks display, and a special set from Dave Dobbyn.
Over the 10 days, a wide variety of exciting events will be held. Don’t miss the glitz and glamour of the Skycity Casino Royale-themed ball, the laughs at the Comedy Galas, or for the more adventurous, the Mophie Mountain Bikes on Snow and the Corona Coronet Peak Night Skiing events.
